NASCAR on NBC |
NBCUniversal announced earlier today that they have plans to close down their cable sports channel, NBCSN, by the end of 2021.
NBC told larger sports organizations that their events would be moved to other NBCUniversal properties such as USA Network, and their streaming service Peacock.
This announcement comes after a hard year for television networks like NBC, many television networks have made similar efforts to consolidate their channels.
NASCAR is likely to find itself on USA Network, at first simulcasting with NBCSN, and when NBCSN closes, NASCAR will likely be on USA Network alone. This will be difficult for the sport as there was already trouble with ratings before this decision. It is important to note that USA Network is currently in 10 million more households than NBCSN is, so in a way this could help further NASCAR. Only time will tell how this will play out.
NBC released the memo NBC Sports Chairman Pete Bevacqua sent to staff today on NBCSN shutting down at the end of the year. It says later this year, USA Network will carry or simulcast #NASCAR races. pic.twitter.com/dFH0PJerfB
