The photo above displays a next-gen prototype car that was used in testing for the next-gen car. NASCAR is done using it for tests and has decided to wrap it, turning it into an advertisement for the next-gen car. This photo of the prototype next-gen car struck great controversy today on social media among NASCAR fans, due to its non traditional look.
For a majority of NASCAR’s existence it has been standard for the race cars to display their numbers centered on the side of the car. Like the cars at the 2020 NASCAR All Star Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, this car has a number placed closer to the rear end of the car, rather than the center. While this wrapped prototype displays the number “22” with significance to the year that the next-gen car will debut, many believe that its placement is no coincidence. It is believed to have been done by NASCAR to represent their plans for the next-gen car.
Since NASCAR first showed their desire to move the numbers back they have received much backlash by their diehard fans. NASCAR has not yet made the decision to change the number placement on the cars, although their neglect to the public opinion shows their determination, and that they haven’t given up yet.
