Rockingham Speedway will be receiving $9 million (as a part of a recent state budget), and plans are currently being finalized on how to use the funding, with intent to improve the historic racing facility in Richmond County, North Carolina. The track has not held a NASCAR Cup Series race since 2004 but continues to be on the mind of many loyal race fans.

Justin Jones, who is the Vice President of Operations at Rockingham Speedway and Entertainment Complex, has said that the speedways "historical value has never faded, it has only grown even more". Jones was brought onboard earlier this year and says he reminded the owners the overall goal should be to bring back some type of major race event. Plans for the $9 Million could give the track its biggest facelift in decades.

In the current plans for this influx of money include a repave of the track, and the instillation of lighting fixtures around the facility.
