Dover Motorsports was the only remaining company on the NASCAR circuit to be publicly traded, or otherwise sell stock. This marks a significant point in the corporate take over of most NASCAR tracks, as even (especially) historical race tracks are now owned by large companies like Speedway Motorsports Incorporated.
This news leaves many rumors flying about the future of Dover International Speedway, following the 2022 race season. Since the deal was struck earlier this year, many stories of closure have been spread around social media. Some individuals claim to know Dover employees who have been asked to relocate to Nashville or quit their jobs, and others have simply speculated that the track will not make an appearance on the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series schedule. Regardless of how true these rumors may or may not be, there is no solid evidence to support them.
Dover currently has only one date on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, a change that was made last year after Dover Motorsports was able to incorporate Nashville Superspeedway into the Cup Series schedule. That addition for Nashville Superspeedway took away a race from the “Monster Mile” and left it with a smaller presence today.
