Ryan Preece, hoping to win at Talladega

During an Instagram livestream on Thursday, April 15th, JTG Daugherty Racing’s driver of the No. 37, Ryan Preece, expressed his intent to have a excellent run during the upcoming “Geico” 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, and possibly even score his first victory.

When Preece was posed with the question “when do you think you are going to get a top-10, a top-5, or a win?”, he replied saying: “We’ve had 2 (top-10’s) this season, I felt like we should have 5” “We’ve run pretty well, unfortunately we haven’t had the finishes that I felt like we should”. Ryan Preece then continued “We’re heading in the right direction, and I’m gonna try and win Dega (Talladega)” “I can tell you, I don’t wanna be the guy who’s leading, if I’m in 2nd”

Ryan Preece who has had a decent start to the 2021 season, is still unsure of what comes next. That would be because the No. 37 ride is in jeopardy. As of right now JTG Daugherty Racing, and Co-Owner Brad Daugherty are unaware of whether or not they will have enough funding to complete the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season. This leaves Ryan Preece in a unique position, giving it his all on a weekly basis, trying to retain his job.

Thus far Preece’s efforts have been at the very least somewhat successful, scoring two top-10’s, and two other top-20’s this season.

As the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway, it might just be Preece’s time to shine. Talladega is notorious for big wrecks taking out the big names, and give the smaller teams and drivers an opportunity to race for the lead. Not only that, but with his teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who is well known for his Superspeedway experience, by his side, Preece could come into this race with an ally, and some important knowledge.

Ryan Preece’s statistics at Talladega Superspeedway look promising as he withholds a 3rd place finish (Spring 2019), a 10th place finish (Fall 2020), and two top-20 finishes and on separate occasions. If Preece can pull everything together, and has learned from his past mistakes here at this track, it appears he may very well be a contender for the win.
