JTG Daugherty announced Friday (1/29/21) that the No. 37 team of Ryan Preece would be run as an open car in the 2021 season of the NASCAR Cup Series.
Brad Daugherty (co-owner of JTG Daugherty) told Bob Pockrass, Fox Sports NASCAR reporter, that the charter that the No. 37 had used in the past few years was now being used by Spire Motorsports.
Daugherty also told Bob Pockrass that the No. 37 team only had sponsorship for 24 of 36 Cup Series races this year.
The team has plans to run those 24 races, and hope that they can find more sponsorship throughout the season. If the time comes where they don’t find any additional sponsorship, the team will decide which races are worth running and which ones they would rather skip.
This story is one we will continue to watch, as there is much uncertainty with the future of the No. 37 team and Ryan Preece.
Talked with Brad Daugherty. Ryan Preece car has funding for 24 races, will run as an open car. If they don't get additional funding and get to a point during the year where they feel they are stretching themselves too thin, will then make a decision on what races to skip. (1/3)

Daugherty said b/c charters going for $5M & estimated winnings of $3.5M this yr (and would have to do all races), JTG wanted to see how charter market evolved & whether to be 1 or 2-car team. (My aside: total charter revenue depends some on finish & 3-yr history of charter) (3/3)
