Josh Berry will drive for the No. 9 team on all oval tracks, and Jordan Taylor has been selected to drive at Circuit of the Americas on March 26. Hendrick Motorsports said in today's announcement that Elliott is expected to be outside of the car for approximately six weeks.
The 27-year-old driver who has just begun his ninth season with Hendrick Motorsports, will not pilot the Napa Auto Parts sponsored No. 9 in the foreseeable future. Elliott suffered a fractured tibia in a snowboarding accident last week, and underwent successful surgery on Friday.
"Josh was impressive this weekend under difficult circumstances, and we look forward to having him drive the oval tracks until Chase is able to return. Jordan is a world-class road racer and has recently been working with our Garage 56 team preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He’ll be able to step in and do a great job at COTA" said team owner Rick Hendrick.
Josh Berry is a race car driver, currently piloting the No. 8 in full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports. With only one full-time NASCAR Xfinity Series season under his belt, the 32 year old driver is a five-time winner in the series.
Receiving two days of notice, Berry was selected to drive the No. 9 in the NASCAR Cup Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He secured a 29th place finish for the Hendrick Motorsports team, as the No. 9 group faced 'throttle' issues according to Berry.
Jordan Taylor is a competitor in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, driving the No. 3 in the GTDP Class for Corvette Racing. Claiming 24 victories throughout nine years, and a presence in the Hendrick Motorsports affiliated 24 Hours of Le Mans, Garage 56 entry Taylor has a skill set that could be valuable at Texas' COTA.
