Just like the other Stewart-Haas Racing drivers, Aric Almirola has had a slow start to the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season. This evening at Richmond Raceway, Almirola fought his way out of that slump to finish 6th, his best finish, and first Top-10 of the season.
Almirola cashed in on stage points during for Stage 2 by crossing the start/finish line in 10th, earning the final stage point.
So if Almirola's 6th place finish, is his best of 2021. What are his current season stats? Here they are:
- Daytona - 34rd / DNF
- Daytona Road Course - 17th
- Homestead-Miami - 30th
- Las Vegas - 38th / DNF
- Phoenix - 11th
- Atlanta - 20th
- Bristol (Dirt) - 36th / DNF
- Martinsville - 20th
- Richmond - 6th
Almirola has been consistently, inconsistent, on a week-to-week basis. A Top-10 is exactly what Almirola needed to get things back on track, but, the points he earned this week will not get him anywhere if he comes to Talladega, and does not perform well.
It’s hard to say where Almirola will go from here. On the optimistic side, it’s nice to think that this finish may be a jumpstart for Almirola’s season, and that we may see more Top-10s coming soon. On the other hand, this could just be a fluke, and next week we could see him running no better than 20th at Talladega.
