On Sundays, Alex Bowman straps into his No. 48 Chevrolet ZL1 and barrels around a race track at 180 miles per hour. Surrounded by 35 other NASCAR race cars, some might say that Bowman is a risk taker, a daredevil, or flat out insane.

NASCAR fans call Alex Bowman a racer, but some might be surprised by how he spends his time away from the track

One of Bowman's significant passions outside of auto-racing happens to be advocating for pet adoption. That devotion is what ultimately earned the driver the Halifax Humane Society "Humanitarian of the Year Award".

Throughout recent years as one of NASCAR's rising stars, Bowman has been very open about his love for his two dogs, Roscoe and Finn. A beagle mix of sorts, Roscoe is a rescue dog himself. According to an article written by Jen Reeder for TODAY, Alex Bowman had no initial intentions of adopting Roscoe, but when the two met, Bowman fell in love.

Since then, Bowman has proudly found ownership in his second 'pup' Finn. Bowman has also raised significant funding for animal shelters all over the contiguous United States.

As the NASCAR Cup Series rolled in to Alex Bowman's home town, for the 2021 Spring race at Phoenix Raceway, Bowman and his Hendrick Motorsports race team revealed a new partnership for the weekend's festivities. An organization called "Best Friends Animal Society" jumped on board and sponsored the No. 48 machine that weekend. In the announcement of this partnership, Bowman's main sponsor Ally Financial pledged to make a donation of $1,000 dollars to one Best Friends affiliated shelter in a city where the Cup Series races. That pledge amounted to $33,000 dollars of donations for shelters across the country. The advocate Alex Bowman is, of course decided to match Ally's donations.

In the 2022 season, that pledge was renewed and still stands at the time of writing this article.

With these massive donations which Alex Bowman was able to allocate, this put the 29 year old driver in the running for the Halifax Humane Society's 2022 "Humanitarian of the Year" award.  With great pride, on Wednesday, September 21st, 2022, the Halifax Humane Society revealed that Bowman has received the honorable award.

Alex Bowman said in his official Hendrick Motorsports press release "My Dogs are pretty much my best friends. Helping animals is something I'm really passionate about. If it were up to me zero pets would be homeless". Bowman continued "...It's cool to share that common interest, and really cool that they're as passionate about it as they are".

Alex Bowman returns to the track this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, for the "Autotrader EchoPark Automotive" 500 where he will continue to claw at his Cup Series championship efforts.
