After a troubling wreck for Carson Hocevar at Worldwide Technology Raceway at Gateway, Niece Motorsports revealed this week that NASCAR Cup Series driver, Daniel Suàrez will be on standby for the No. 42 Truck Series team as the series heads to Sonoma Raceway. Suàrez currently drives for Trackhouse Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series, and previously won the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2016.

In the previous NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Worldwide Technology Raceway at Gateway, Hocevar sustained injuries to his lower left extremities, when his No. 42 Premier Security Silverado collided with the No. 5 Hairclub/Capillus Tundra of Tyler Hill. The impact occurred around the contingency panel of Hocevar’s racing machine, easily making direct contact with the driver’s left ankle.

It was revealed before a practice session on Friday that Hocevar had received surgery, where a screw was inserted into his ankle. During this practice session Carson Hocevar made a handful of laps in the No. 42 Silverado, and shared seat time with his backup driver Daniel Suàrez. Following this practice session, the NASCAR sanctioning body stated that Carson Hocevar was cleared to race in Saturday's event.

Whether or not Carson Hocevar will participate in the entire race is unknown, although it is believed that Hocevar will make an attempt to compete in the event, and pending pain and safety concerns may swtich places with Daniel Suàrez part way through the race. When questioned by FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass, Hocevar explained that he was interested in competing, but did not want to risk further injury to his ankle which could have greater impact to his run in the 2022 season.

How the upcoming racing event at Sonoma Raceway plays out for both Carson Hocevar and Daniel Suàrez is very much in the air. Stock Car Media wishes Carson a speedy recovery, and the best of luck out on the race track.
