Spencer Boyd Racing |
Michael Waltrip’s first full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series for Chuck Rider and Bahari Racing came in 1986, driving the No. 23 Hawaiian Punch Pontiac became a part of NASCAR history attached to the now storied driver, team owner, and TV personality. Another interesting piece of history is that Waltrip's first series start came in 1985 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, driving a No. 23 Chevrolet for Dick Bahre.
Spencer Boyd stated, “Throwbacks are an opportunity to celebrate NASCAR’s history; I love them. We asked RimTyme to pick the scheme this year so when they came back with Michael’s Hawaiian Punch car a big smile came across my face. Michael made mention of me on the broadcast at my very first NASCAR race, so I find it fitting to honor him this way.”
Boyd, a NASCAR Truck Series veteran driver at this point, still does not have much to his name after a little more than 70 series starts. A win inside a few top-10's, and all his best finishes at either Daytona International Speedway or Talladega Superspeedway. He will be definitely looking to score a win at Darlington Raceway to clinch himself a spot in the 2022 Playoffs.
