March 16th, 1980 - Dale Earnhardt passes Rusty Wallace to win the Atlanta 500, securing his first superspeedway victory. Earnhardt starts the race in the 31st position and makes his way to the front in time to take the checkered flag in first place.
March 13th, 1983 - Richard Petty takes the checkered flag to win the Carolina 500 at Rockingham, narrowly winning over Bill Elliot by a bumper-length, and notching his 196th NASCAR Winston Cup Series career win.
March 17th, 1985 - Despite having a broken leg, Bill Elliot leads second-place finisher Geoff Bodine to the line to win the Coca-Cola 500 at Atlanta.
March 19th, 2000 - Ward Burton wins the Mall.com 400 at Darlington Raceway, finishing a mere 1.4 seconds before second place Dale Jarrett, to bag his second NASCAR Winston Cup Series victory.
March 16th, 2003 - Ricky Craven nudges Kurt Busch to win the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 at Darlington Raceway; the margin of victory is a mere 0.002 seconds, the closest finish since NASCAR began to use electronic timing systems.
