For the 11th time this season, the No. 54 Toyota Supra punished the NASCAR Xfinity Series field and stole the victory, this time being at Kansas Raceway. Behind the wheel of the 54 machine was Ty Gibbs.
Gibbs, making only his 17th career NASCAR Xfinity Series start, had taken his 4th victory of his part-time schedule this year. With only two races left in the 2021 Season, Ty Gibbs has already clinched the Rookie of the Year Award over Josh Berry among others. He has one more start coming in the 54 car, being at Martinsville, and then John Hunter Nemechek will take over for Phoenix.
On multiple occasions, six of the Round of 8 drivers had either gotten into a spin or some other incident happened. Daniel Hemric got lose and spun in front of Noah Gragon. Both drivers continued, but were down a set of tires. Gragson would later get taken out in another accident when Harrison Burton was shot up the track into the wall by Sam Mayer.
The race was dominated by Austin Cindric, with him leading 151 laps and taking the Stage 2 playoff point, but all race long, the 54 car was clearly faster. Gibbs had a speeding penalty at the end of Stage 2, which send him to restart at the tail end of the field. Gibbs would pass Cindric for the lead for the final time with 12 laps to go.
AJ Allmendinger won Stage 1.
Austin Cindric won Stage 2.
