Chandler Smith has won the “UNOH” 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway, scoring his first victory in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Smith, the young rookie driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports has won, making a name for himself in the sport of auto racing and expanding his resumé. Coming into tonight’s race Chandler Smith knew that he had to perform well as the No. 18 faced elimination, this victory allows Smith to advance into the next round of the playoffs.
Aside for Chandler Smith winning, tonight’s race was dominated by two individuals, Sheldon Creed and John Hunter Nemechek. Creed entered tonight’s race coming off of two victories in a row at Gateway, and Darlington Raceway. Tonight Sheldon Creed was not so lucky as to win, but did score both stage wins of the night before his struggles in the final portions of the race. John Hunter Nemechek faced almost the complete opposite situation as Sheldon Creed, but was a contender for the win all night long. To begin this race, Nemechek started on the front row alongside Creed, but would fall out of place in one of the restarts, and was passed by many trucks. By the end of the race Nemechek had battled his way back to the front of the pack, trying to pass his teammate Chandler Smith. Nemechek would not get the job done, and as he botched his attempt he would again fall outside the the racing groove and lost several positions.
Sheldon Creed won both stages in this race.
