Chase Elliott to replace Michael Annett for Indianapolis Road Course

JR Motorsports

It was announced this morning (8/14/21),that Chase Elliott will be replacing Michael Annett in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at the Indianapolis (Motor Speedway) Road Course this afternoon Saturday, August 14th.

Chase Elliott regularly drives the No. 9 Napa Auto Parts Camaro in the NASCAR Cup Series, but drops down to a lower series today because of an injury Michael Annett sustained in his femur bone. Annett missed two races prior to today’s, at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and Dover International Speedway, due to a stress fracture in his femur. While Michael Annett was cleared to race at Watkins Glen International (and finished 11th), a recent surgery for the driver of the No. 1 car leaves him out of contention again.

While the Indianapolis (Motor Speedway) Road Course is a brand new track for the Cup Series, if Chase Elliott wasn’t on your radar to win this weekend already, his chances of scoring a victory just got even better. Chase Elliott the son of Bill Elliott possesses the skill necessary to road race, in fact he has won 7 out of his 13 road course starts in the Cup Series, putting him on an elite list with names like Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and Mark Martin. The young champions first victory came on the road course at Watkins Glen international back in 2018, could his 14th come this weekend at Indianapolis? This extra practice won’t hurt.

You can catch Chase Elliott hop into the cockpit of the No. 1 Camaro this afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the “Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard”. Race coverage will begin at 4:00 PM ET, and will be aired live on NBCSN.
