AJ Allmendinger wins Xfinity race at Michigan

AJ Allmendinger has won the “New Holland” 250 at Michigan International Speedway, scoring his third NASCAR Xfinity Series race of the 2021 season.

While this race at Michigan International Speedway may be memorable for many reasons, one huge record that the “New Holland” 250 now beholds is: “The longest recorded race for the NASCAR Xfinity Series”. After 3 overtime attempts, Kaulig Racing’s veteran driver AJ Allmendinger came out on top.

Coming into this race Josh Berry, who drove part time for JR Motorsports this season, returned to the team’s Xfinity Series department as he filled in for a recooperating Michael Annett. After a stress fracture in his femur, Annett needed surgery, and with surgery unfortunately came downtime. Berry was fitted for the car, and miraculously came very close to a victory. The No. 1 Michael Annett car rarely comes close to victory, and Berry driving it as well as he did does put a question on Annett’s future at the team.

Another driver who had a very good day here at Michigan was Brandon Jones. The driver of the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 Supra has has quite the lack luster season, and finishing 2nd in this race is an accomplishment for the team if anything.

A driver who’s day ended horribly during this race was Austin Cindric. On lap 36 of the race Brandon Brown fell back through the field after a restart, luckily he got his car under control without hitting the No. 61 of Bubba Wallace. Unfortunately for Brandon Brown and many others, Ty Gibbs upset the rear end of Myatt Snider’s No. 2 Camaro, and Snider was sent into Brandon Brown. As the No. 2 car spun out of control, the No. 22 of Austin Cindric was clipped and sent nose first into the wall. Penske’s No. 22 team attempted to repair the race car by removing the body work from the front end, but unfortunately for Cindric the car leaked fluid all over the track and was black flagged.
