Jennifer Jo Cobb NOT approved for Talladega

Yesterday evening (4/19/21),  it was announced that NASCAR did not approve Truck Series regular, Jennifer Jo Cobb, to make her Cup Series debut at Talladega Superspeedway.

As previously stated in our article “Jennifer Jo Cobb to make Cup debut at Talladega” , Jennifer Jo Cobb had plans to make her NASCAR Cup Series debut this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, driving the Rick Ware Racing No. 15 Chevrolet. Now NASCAR tells us that Cobb, who has rarely driven competitive equipment during her 17 season career in NASCAR, will (as of right now) not be able to make that debut.

Throughout her career in NASCAR, Cobb has garnered   217 starts in the Truck Series, and 31 starts in the Xfinity Series. While Jennifer Jo Cobb has made these 31 Xfinity Series starts, she hasn’t had one since 2018, and most of them were with Rick Ware Racing.

FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass took to Twitter on Monday evening explaining NASCAR’s decision. Pockrass told that NASCAR’s decision was based on the quality of Cobb’s past performance (which obviously fans have a lot to argue about). Another factor of NASCAR’s decision was that Cobb had been approved by NASCAR to run in the Cup Series a few years back, but since she hadn’t driven in the series in over a year she had to be re-approved, which she was not. Bob Pockrass also told that this has to do with NASCAR’s recent stringency in the approval process, as they have become more careful over who they want in the Cup Series, and who they don’t.

With less than a week until the “Geico” 500 at Talladega, it seems unlikely that Cobb will be able to make any changes and gain approval from NASCAR. Jennifer Jo Cobb’s NASCAR Cup Series debut is most likely put on hold.
