Christopher Bell scores clutch win at Martinsville, advances to championship race at Phoenix

The driver of Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 20 car, Christopher Bell has won the fall, 2022 NASCAR Cup Series “Xfinity” 500 at Martinsville Speedway. This victory punches Bell’s ticket to next week’s championship race at Phoenix Raceway.

After a disappointing 34th place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and a less than excellent performance at Homestead Miami Speedway Christopher Bell has once again come in clutch, winning in the eleventh-hour at Martinsville.

Winning at Martinsville marked a third victory on the 2022 season for Christopher Bell, in only his third full-time season in NASCAR’s premier series. An uptick in performance has been seen this season for the 26 year old driver.

Hailing from the dirt tracks of Oklahoma, Christopher Bell has worked his way through the NASCAR ranks, and advances as one of the top-four drivers of the 2022 Cup Series season. After getting his start with the now defunct Levine Family Racing, Christopher Bell has shown his worth to the Joe Gibbs organization with four victories, and 19 top-5 finishes under the No. 20, team banner.

Sunday’s victory at the Martinsville Speedway marks multiple firsts for the up and coming driver. In his first win at the ‘paper clip’ short track, Bell also scored his first top-5 finish at the racing facility. In addition to that, Christopher Bell will be making his first appearance in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship-four.

Competing against Joey Logano (who won at Las Vegas Motor Speedway), Chase Elliott and Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell is as close as he’s ever been to taking the Cup Series title, next weekend at Phoenix.

In terms of Christopher Bell’s performance at the Championship destination, Phoenix Raceway, there are improvements to be made. Throughout his time in the NASCAR Cup Series, he has never finished better than 9th at the track. In two appearances at Phoenix Raceway, Bell has finished outside of the top-20, one of those being just this spring.

If Christopher Bell can expect to walk home with the Championship trophy this season, the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 team and Bell need to show steady improvements at Arizona’s NASCAR track.
