It was announced on Thursday (08/18/22) that Kurt Busch will not be driving in the 23XI No. 45 Toyota for the remainder of the NASCAR Cup Series regular season, due to persistent concussion-like symptoms after his crash at Pocono Raceway in July. The races at Watkins Glen International and Daytona International Speedway will be the fifth and sixth event that the Cup Series veteran has not competed in during the 2022 season.
Kurt Busch says, "...The decision was not an easy one, but the right one. I need to be racing at 100%. I owe that to everyone at 23XI, all of our partners, my fellow competitors, and the race fans. It is my goal to be back in the No. 45 Toyota Camry TRD to start the playoffs... I continue to be incredibly grateful for all the well-wishes and support. It truly means a lot."
Ty Gibbs will continue to pilot the No. 45 car for 23XI until Kurt Busch is mended and ready to race again. The 19-year-old was moved up to race in place of Busch starting at Pocono, which was his first experience at the NASCAR Cup Series level. He has raced in four Cup Series events so far and earned a top-ten at Michigan.
