NASCAR announces new Chicago Street Course for 2023

NASCAR Chicago Street Racing Weekend/Twitter

It has been announced on Tuesday afternoon (07/19/22) that NASCAR will race the Chicago Street Course beginning in the 2023 season. The date for Road America in early July will be replaced by the debut of the new street course, which is to be on the streets of the Chicago Loop. Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot met with NASCAR officials and drivers to set the course, and officially announce the date of July 1-2 for the 2023 NASCAR Chicago Street Race Weekend.

The NASCAR senior vice-president of racing development and strategy Ben Kennedy said, "I am really excited about announcing that for the first time with our national series we'll be bringing it to a street course, and what better place to do it than downtown Chicago, such an iconic city. You think about the history of sports there, the iconic monuments and facilities around Chicago, and the support we've had around Chicago as well. Mix that in with the great racing that we've seen with our NASCAR Cup Series, it's certainly going to be a very special moment in the summer of 2023 as we go street-course racing for the first time with this series."

The IMSA Series will kick off the NASCAR Chicago Street Racing Weekend on July 1st, as they are also hosting a stock-car event on the new street course in the first weekend of July. The NASCAR Cup Series race at the Chicago Street Course will be July 2nd and will be television broadcasted on NBC. As of now, the location for the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series races during that weekend have not been released.
