NASCAR's deep history is surprisingly not very well known, even for avid fans; this article is meant to get fans in the know of the most notable NASCAR history that happened throughout this week.
May 13th, 1954 - NASCAR president Bill France is escorted out of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway garage complex. AAA chief steward Harry McQuinn later says, "We have a long-standing disagreement with NASCAR on what constitutes good racing."
May 11th, 1963 - Joe Weatherly is declared the winner of the two-part Rebel 300 at Darlington Raceway. The race is run in the format of a double-header race; Weatherly wins the opening half of the race, and Richard Petty winning the second half. The winner is determined by a complicated points system.
May 13th, 1967 - Richard Petty takes the checkered flag to win the Darlington Rebel 400, securing his 55th NASCAR Grand National victory. This puts Petty on top of the list of all-time victories.
May 11th, 1968 - David Pearson wins the Rebel 400 at Darlington Raceway, running in his Holman-Moody Ford, which is powered by a small 396-cid engine.
May 9th, 1971 - Benny Parsons wins the 100-mile race at South Boston Speedway, notching his first NASCAR Winston Cup Grand National Series career victory.
