This Week in NASCAR History: March 6th - 12th

NASCAR's deep history is surprisingly not very well known, even for avid fans; this article is meant to get fans in the know of the most notable NASCAR history that happened throughout this week.

March 8th, 1987 - Despite being involved in a wreck during practice, Dale Earnhardt drives his patched Chevrolet racecar to win the "Valleydale" 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, notching his 22nd career victory.

March 6th, 1988 - Neil Bonnett winds through the field from a 30th place start to win the "Goodwrench" 500 at North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham. Bonnett wins a narrow victory over Lake Speed, who was behind by less than one second.

March 7th, 1993 - Davey Allison absolutely dominates the final stage of the "Pontiac Excitement" 400 at Richmond International Raceway, leading all but four of the 157 final laps, and winning the race.

March 9th, 1997 - Dale Jarrett takes the checkered flag to win the "Primestar" 500 after leading the last 59 laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway, with his teammate Ernie Irvan finishing second, to give the Roberts Yates team a 1-2 finish.

March 7th, 1999 - After battling for the lead with Ward Burton for five laps, Jeff Burton manages to edge ahead of his brother to win the "Las Vegas" 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

March 11th, 2001 - Rookie Kevin Harvick, replacement for the late Dale Earnhardt, pulls of a shocker of a win when he takes the checkered flag to win the "Cracker Barrel Old Country Store" 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, in only his third NASCAR Winston Cup Series start.
