Jimmie Johnson to compete full-time in 2022 IndyCar Season

Carvana Racing Via Twitter
Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has officially announced that he will be racing the complete 2022 IndyCar Season. It was originally announced that Johnson would attempt the prestigious Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but now he will compete with Chip Ganassi Racing's operation in that series, and sponsor Carvana, will return after a part-time run with Johnson during the 2021 season.

The No. 48 will continue to be Johnson's race number, something he carried over from his NASCAR career, where piloted the number for Hendrick Motorsports. Johnson retired from full-time NASCAR competition at the end of the 2020 Cup Series season, having driven in the series for 19 years. The prestigious driver spent his entire Cup Series career at Hendrick Motorsports driving the No. 48 Chevrolet, and went on to win seven championships, and 83 victories.

Following his retirement from NASCAR, in Johnson made a part-time IndyCar effort behind the No. 48 for Chip Ganassi in 2021. He will make IndyCar history in 2022, as he will become one of the only drivers to win NASCAR's Daytona 500 and then attempt the “Indy” 500. The only other driver to complete this task, was Mario Andretti in 1994. It is worth noting that NASCAR driver Kurt Busch, had won the Indy 500 before winning the Daytona 500 in 2017.

We hope Johnson finds success in his new endeavors with IndyCar racing, and maybe even finds himself with a checkered flag once again!
