Keselowski and Logano switch spotters for remainder of 2021 season

Moments ago Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass reported to Twitter that TJ Majors (a longtime spotter of Joey Logano, and earlier Dale Earnhardt Jr.) will move from the No. 22 team to the No. 2 team, effectively switching spots with Coleman Pressley (who has spotted for Brad Keselowski since 2019). This change for Team Penske will take place prior to this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series “FireKeepers Casino” 400 at Michigan International Speedway, and is supposed remain in place for the remainder of the 2021 season.

This spotter change at Team Penske could drastically shift the season outlook for both Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski. While Coleman Pressley is a very good spotter, it is fair to say TJ Majors is significantly better, especially on superspeedway tracks. While driver knowledge and skill set is vital to winning races Majors’ move to the No. 2 team could set up Brad with new opportunities as he closes out his final year at the team.

With the recent news (and long-standing rumors) of Brad Keselowski’s move to Roush Fenway Racing next season as an owner driver, the futures of these spotters are put into question, specifically TJ Majors. Majors, who may be one of the sports most skilled spotters on superspeedway type tracks, is undoubtedly a very valuable asset to Team Penske. As Brad Keselowski assumes his role driving the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford, it is unclear whether he will drag along TJ Majors with him to the new team or if Majors will stay with the No. 2 team to spot for Keselowski’s replacement, Austin Cindric.

While both scenarios hold major pros and cons, two of the most significant are that TJ Majors moving Roush Fenway Racing with Keselowski could pack an extra punch that the team has been seeking for years now, while simultaneously weakening the strength of Team Penske.
