The Richard Petty Motorsports driver, Erik Jones, miraculously was able to survive the wreck-fest in the last several laps in the "Verizon" 200 at the Brickyard on Sunday, August 15th, 2021.
Jones brought the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro across the famous brick paved start/finish line to a 7th, which marks his 3rd Top 10 finish of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season. During yesterday’s race the No. 43 ran within the Top-20 with ease, but after 2 overtime attempts sparked by 2 separate red flag occasions, Jones was able to pass his competitors and bring Richard Petty Motorsports to an impressive finish.
Unfortunately, Erik Jones still has not been able to clinch the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs as we speak. Jones currently sits 24th in the regular-season points standings, and with 2 races left, Jones is in a must win situation. Coming to his home track of Michigan International Speedway on August 22nd could the momentum from this Top-10 lead to another great finish? Only time will tell, but with any luck the team will see some minor improvements.
Somehow @Erik_Jones made it through that, don’t ask us how 😅 pic.twitter.com/orhJbeix4i
