In yesterday’s “Explore the Pocono Mountains” 350, Bubba Wallace finished 5th, driving the No. 23 DraftKings Toyota Camry. This finish marks a huge milestone for the new team, as it represents both their first Top-5 and first Top-10 finish.
23XI Racing, the teamed formed by former NBA legend Michael Jordan, and victorious NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin has seen it’s fair share of time in the spotlight. The combination of the team’s owners, and driver (Bubba Wallace) has brought the group plenty of publicity regarding inclusivity in the sport. Unfortunately for 23XI Racing this publicity has raised the new team’s expectations significantly, to a point in which the team simply cannot yet preform.
This 5th place finish is undoubtedly a big stepping stone for the team as they continue grow in only their first season. Within the next few seasons, more finishes like this one can be expected out of the team, considering their technical alliance with powerhouse Joe Gibbs Racing. For now 23XI Racing simply has to focus on replicating this success.
