Joe Gibbs Racing |
Joe Gibbs Racing partner, Interstate Batteries, has been alongside the team since before Gibbs had a race shop. Interstate Batteries was the founding partner of JGR, back in 1992, and has stuck with the team ever since.
Before he came to NASCAR, Joe Gibbs was already a 3-time NFL Superbowl winning coach. After working out a contract with Interstate Batteries in 1991, Gibbs signed on Dale Jarrett to drive his No. 18 Chevrolet Lumina for 1992. Jarrett won the 1993 Daytona 500 for Gibbs, and drove the No. 18 until 1994, when he moved to Robert Yates Racing for 1995.
As Joe Gibbs Racing is celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, why not celebrate the 30 year partnership that, technically, helped them get started.
So the JGR No. 54 NASCAR Xfinity Series car, which will be driven by Ty Gibbs, will be decorated with the 1992 Interstate Batteries paint scheme for the throwback race at Darlington.
Be sure to tune into the "Steakhouse Elite” 200 on Saturday, May 8th. Live race coverage will begin at 1:00 PM EST, and will be aired on FOX Sports 1.
We're going back to our roots with @interstatebatts and our very first paint scheme together! @TyGibbs_ will be racing at @TooToughToTame in @DaleJarrett's 1992 #teaminterstate🔋 colors. pic.twitter.com/glJi5PIUec
