It was announced Tuesday morning (5/4/21) that 23XI Racing and Bubba Wallace will team up with sponsor Root Insurance to honor NASCAR driver Wendell Scott.
Wendell Scott was undoubtedly a significant figure in NASCAR and stock car racing as a whole, as he was one of the first African American’s to race AND win in NASCAR’s top level. This win came for Scott on December 1st, 1963, at Speedway Park in Jacksonville Florida.
Bubba Wallace, an African American driver himself has worked his way up into NASCAR’s top level over the past decade, and will pay his respect to Scott who undoubtedly paved the way for Wallace. Wallace’s paint scheme has been designed to closely resemble Scott’s sky-blue No. 34 (see below).

You can catch this throwback paint scheme hit the track this upcoming Sunday, May 9th, during the “Goodyear” 400 throwback race at Darlington Raceway. Race coverage will begin at 3:30 PM ET, and will be aired live on FOX Sports 1.
