Brad Keselowski has won the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational at virtual Talladega Superspeedway, earning his first victory in the sim racing series.
As many may already know by now, NASCAR’s best drivers aren’t necessarily the best iRacers. That is exactly it was so surprising to see Brad Keselowski up there with the likes of James Davison, and Garrett Smithley. Davison and Smithley, both drivers for Rick Ware Racing, ran 1-2 for a majority of this 70 lap virtual race. While these drivers may struggle on a week to week basis in the Cup Series, they have a noticeable advantage in iRacing. Some Cup Series regulars, including winner Brad Keselowski, haven’t turned on their sim racing rigs in weeks, and for some even months. This lack of practice is one of the reasons, among many, that Keselowski’s win was so surprising.
A last minute addition to this iRacing event was Keelan Harvick, NASCAR Veteran Kevin Harvick’s 8 year old son. Keelan Harvick had a lot of practice before tonight’s event, and had a decent run, until he was involved in a wreck with Ross Chastain, and multiple other drivers. Keelan finished 38th, but his virtual run is what I would consider a good debut in the series, especially considering he is only a child.
Overall this “race” was fun to watch, and was definitely a great lead into our real race weekend at Talladega!
