Kyle Larson wins Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Hendrick Motorsports

On Sunday evening (3/7/21) Kyle Larson won the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, earning his 7th career victory in NASCAR Cup Series.

During today’s race Kyle Larson’s No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE had a lot of speed. Larson was within the top-10 for a majority of the race, and whenever he found himself outside of the top-10, he made his way back to the front. Kyle Larson led 103 of the 267 lap race along side leaders like; Brad Keselowski, Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr., and Denny Hamlin.

This victory is significant to Kyle Larson’s career, as it is his first since being reinstated by NASCAR. Last Spring, Larson made national news after using a racial slur during an iRacing event. NASCAR suspended Kyle Larson from the sport due to this incident, and he lost his ride at Chip Ganassi Racing. The NASCAR sanctioning body eventually announced that they would reinstate Kyle Larson in January of 2021, and when they made that decision Hendrick Motorsports announced that they would bring back the iconic No. 5, with Kyle Larson driving.

Today marks Larson’s first victory at Hendrick Motorsports, and back in the sport.

Aside from Kyle Larson’s win, this race was nothing but extraordinary! Today’s Pennzoil 400 featured some extremely intense, and entertaining racing.  We consistently saw a battle for the lead by many drivers, and even going 3 wide on the first lap. There were some cautions, though overall they were kept to a minimum. This race was by far one of the most entertaining NASCAR races I have seen in a while, and is something that the sport should strive to recreate in the future.

The No. 2 of Brad Keselowski won stage 1 of the race, and the No. 5 of Kyle Larson won stages 2 and 3.
