Bubba Wallace finishes 28th at Las Vegas

23XI Racing

During yesterday’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Bubba Wallace had a disappointing run in the No. 23 Toyota Camry, finishing 28th.

The No. 23 finished 38th in stage 1, 34th in stage 2, and 28th in stage 3.

During the race, the No. 23 team experienced several issues with power steering, that put Bubba Wallace’s a few laps down. Wallace, and his team worked hard to overcome these issues, but were unsuccessful at finishing any better than top-30.

This occurrence is especially disappointing for Bubba Wallace because at this time last year, in the Richard Petty Motorsports No. 43, he finished 6th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This time around Erik Jones (No. 43) finished 10th, while Wallace was way back in 28th. This stark contrast between finishes really shows the growing pains that 23XI Racing are experiencing in their first season.

Bubba Wallace gets a lot of flack, and I’ll agree he is definitely not greatest driver in the Cup Series, though considering how he finished last year, and how poorly he has done this year, I have to partly blame 23XI Racing. At Richard Petty Motorsports, fans claimed Wallace had bad equipment. I do understand that RPM is not the most technologically advanced team, though, so far Wallace has done worse with 23XI, a team that was expected to be more competitive.

It’s true, this is only 23XI Racing’s 4th start, and its normal to underperform at first, though I think I speak for many fans when I say that I expected more from the team, especially considering how the media portrayed them. Hopefully this is just a small roadblock for the team, and maybe in time we will see them improve.
