Which Toyota Team will dominate in 2021?

In 2021 there just aren’t that many Toyota’s in the NASCAR Cup Series field, there are only 5 full-time Toyota's in the lineup. Even though there aren’t that many Toyota’s, and they are low on numbers, some of NASCAR's biggest names are driving Toyota Camrys.

Let’s review each the Toyota teams and their drivers:

  • Joe Gibbs Racing, [No. 11 / Denny Hamlin, No. 18 / Kyle Busch, No. 19 / Martin Truex, Jr, and No. 20 / Christopher Bell], JGR had a strange 2020 season, with 7 wins for Hamlin, 1 win for Busch, and 1 win for Truex. Many Joe Gibbs Racing fans are hoping for a better season, although 2021 is shaping up to be a strange year for the team as well. Denny Hamlin, the teams best shot at some wins, is starting his own team this year with Michael Jordan, and Bubba Wallace. This will likely put Hamlin in some new situations, as both a team owner and a driver for a separate team, and for this reason we could see a dip in his performance. It seems as though Kyle Busch’s success is beginning to dip as well, as we saw him with a very long winless streak in 2020. With that being said, he may still have few more wins in store. Truex on the other hand, really needs to clean up his mistakes from 2020 if he wants to get back into contention for the championship. For Truex 2020 was a down year, but I suspect with some hard work that could change for 2021. The team’s newest driver, Christopher Bell, could be JGR’s best story line for 2021. Bell performed well last year in Toyota equipment over at Levine Family Racing, and this year had tremendous speed throughout Speedweek at Daytona.
  • 23XI Racing, [No. 23 / Bubba Wallace], seems to be a very popular team, because of the legendary Michael Jordan, who is partial-team owner for 23XI Racing. While popularity has put the team in the spotlight, the biggest question is: With Bubba Wallace behind the wheel, could they make it to victory lane in their first season? I know the team has the speed and will definitely be in contention for some wins, but really we’ll  just have to wait and see.

There is of course part-time Toyota driver, Ty Dillon, who drove the No. 23 for 23XI Racing in this year’s Busch Clash, and will race part-time in the No. 96 for Gaunt Brothers Racing. This likely will not be his year, as he did not land himself a full time ride in the off-season.

I don't need to make a Top 10 of the Toyota drivers, because there are only 5 of them, but who do you think will be the top Toyota driver for 2021? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and we’ll be sure to get back to you!
