Ty Dillon is trying to prove himself

As many fans know, Ty Dillon does not have a full-time Cup Series ride for 2021. Dillon will race part-time in both the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series, but for an unknown number of races.

So why doesn't Ty Dillon have a full-time ride? Well, Germain Racing was losing funding from their primary sponsor, GEICO, and was then forced to sell the team. A brand new team 23XI Racing bought Germaine Racing, and signed Bubba Wallace to drive the No. 23 car, leaving Dillon without a seat. No one went on to sign Dillon on for a full-time ride, but he was able to pickup a few Cup races with Gaunt Brothers Racing in the No. 96 Toyota. He also picked up a couple of Xfinity races with Joe Gibbs Racing in their part-time car, the No. 54.

Ty Dillon had the opportunity to race in the 2021 Busch Clash for 23XI Racing, but that was only because Bubba Wallace wasn't eligible to race in the Clash and Dillon was. He finished 18th in the Busch Clash on the Daytona road course.

On Thursday Ty Dillon finished 6th in the Bluegreen Vacations Duel 1 driving the No. 96 for Gaunt Brothers Racing as an open car, though Ryan Preece, another open car finished 5th, so that knocked Dillon out of running in the Daytona 500. Most recently, in the "Beef. It's What's for Dinner." 300, Dillon nearly completed a pass, but as he was not clear he got turned by his fellow JGR teammate, Daniel Hemric, ending his very successful day. Dillon ran up front for most of the race after starting 32nd, he finished a decent 14th, but had he not wrecked, I believe he very well could had won.

Ty Dillon has been given quite a few very good opportunities this season, and so far he’s thrown them all away. I must ask, is he trying to go another year without a full-time cup ride in 2022?
