Roush Fenway Racing and Chris Buescher posted to Twitter Monday night (2/2/21) revealing photographs and videos of a brand new No. 17 Ford Mustang featuring Castrol as the primary sponsor.
Castrol has been involved with Roush Fenway, as they have sponsored the No. 6 of NASCAR veteran Ryan Newman in years past, though this is the first time that the motor oil company has been a primary sponsor for Chris Buescher.
This new paint scheme for the No. 17 of Buescher appears slightly different from the Castrol paint scheme his teammate Ryan Newman ran in 2020. The largest difference with this paint scheme is that the door panel area will be white, and the number 17 on the side will appear green. This differs from Newman’s 2020 paint scheme because the door panel on that car was green and red and the number on the side was white. Another slight difference with the No. 17 paint scheme is that the areas where the different colors meet are smooth, where 2020’s No. 6 paint scheme saw jagged, angular edges.
Also posted to the team’s Twitter account was a photo of both Chris Buescher and Ryan Newman wearing fire suits displaying Castrol branding. While it was announced late last year, this photo helps to confirm that Ryan Newman will also be running the No. 6 Castrol Ford Mustang, likely similar to what we have seen in years past.
Castrol will be the primary sponsor for the No. 17 of Chris Buescher for two races; at Atlanta Motor Speedway and at Michigan International Speedway in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series.
Castrol will be a primary sponsor for the No. 6 of Newman for four races; at the Daytona road course, the Spring Talladega race, the Charlotte Rovel, and at the championship weekend in Phoenix in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Ryan Newman’s best finish in the No. 6 Castrol Ford came last summer at Michigan, where he crossed the start/finish line in 13th place. It will be interesting to see if Ryan Newman or Chris Buescher will place better while running the Castrol paint scheme in 2021.
