The 15 year old ARCA Menard's series driver pulled out his cell-phone and recorded video from the driver's seat of his car, and then proceeded to post it to Snapchat. This action is in violation of the following NASCAR rule:
“Except as provided below, vehicles and drivers will not be permitted to carry onboard computers, automated electronic recording devices, electronically actuated devices, smartphones/cell phones, watches, micro-processors, recording devices, filming devices, electronic digital memory chips, traction control devices, digital readout gauges and the like, even if inoperable or incomplete.”
After meeting with ARCA and NASCAR officials Taylor Gray was allowed to return to the track the following day, although it was expected by most that penalty eventually occur for the driver.
Fast forward to today (1/19/21) it has been announced that the David Gilliland Racing driver has been fined $1,000 and placed on probation for the entirety of the 2021 ARCA season. This decision has been cosidered highly controversial within the NASCAR and ARCA community.
