It was announced Friday morning, October 14, 2022 that Blake Harris will become crew chief for Alex Bowman, starting in 2023. This was announced months after the news that Greg Ives would step down from his role as crew chief of the No. 48. Camaro after the 2022 season.
The 2022 season has been yet another year of success for Harris, who is currently crew chief for the Fromt Row Motorsports No. 34, of Michael McDowell.
Together, the pair has scored 12 top-10 finishes in only 32 Cup Series starts thus far, making this season a career best for the driver of the No. 34 Mustang. Harris will finish off the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season with Front Row Motorsports, before shifting to Hendrick Motorsports in 2023.
Harris remarks, "The opportunity to work with a winning driver like Alex, an engaged sponsor like Ally and a championship team like Hendrick Motorsports is huge. When I moved to North Carolina in 2005, my goal was to become a crew chief for a top-caliber organization who could win races and compete for titles. I'm thankful for the chance to fulfil that dream and look forward to building something special with the No. 48 team."
Alex Bowman, who is currently recovering from a concussion that he acquired during a crash at Texas Motor Speedway, has racked up an impressive five victories in the last two seasons. Since he began driving full-time for Hendrick Motorsports in 2018, Bowman earned himself a playoff seat in each of the five seasons racing for the team.
Bowman says, "I'm pumped about the chance to work with Blake. He's a great fit for me, for our No. 48 group, and for the way that Hendrick Motorsports operates week in and week out. With Blake and everyone who supports this Ally team, I know we can build on what Greg [Ives] started and take this to the next level."
Front Row Motorsports has made a statement saying “We wish Blake nothing but the best in the future” and that the team is already preparing for the next season, finding a new Crew Chief.
