William Byron, a NASCAR Cup Series regular competitor for Hendrick Motorsports, scored his 8th career victory in the NASCAR Truck Series at Martinsville Speedway on Thursday, April 7th. It was only announced just a few days ago, that Byron would pilot the No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado for Spire Motorsports in the event.
It was Byron's first start in the series since the 2021 race at Nashville Superspeedway, but his first victory since the 2016 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
As both the practice and qualifying sessions were cancelled for the NASCAR Truck Series due to rainy weather, the Starting lineup would be chosen by the formula during the 2020 and 2021 NASCAR Seasons, placing Zane Smith to start on the front row.
Front row starter Zane Smith drove his No. 38 Ford F-150 to a good Stage 1 and 2 points pay day, only to fall victim to speeding of pit lane on lap-108, forcing him outside the top-10. He would, however, scrape together a 9th place finish at the race end.
Defending NASCAR Truck Series champion Ben Rhodes, and most of his ThorSport Racing teammates had run close to the front at some point during the race. Rhodes led 47 laps and took home the Stage 2 points. He also takes control of the series points standings as the new leader.
Race winner William Bryon led all but one lap in the final stage enroute to his victory.
