The 2022 NASCAR Truck Series "FR8" 208 was the first NASCAR event to take place on a freshly repaved Atlanta Motor Speedway, which went under construction shortly after the checkered flag fell for the 2021 "Quaker State, presented by Walmart" 400. The track was reconfigured, getting 28 degrees of banking in the turns, and a brand-new drainage system.
Due to bad weather, qualifying times were canceled, and NASCAR resorted to last year's starting lineup formula. The starting positions were determined by; a driver’s finish in the last race (25%), the owner’s finish in the last race (25%), 2021 owner points (35%), and the driver’s fastest lap ranking in the previous race (15%). So, Chandler Smith's No. 18 Toyota Tundra started in the pole position.
Second place starter Stewart Friesen would lead a majority of the first stage, and eventually took the green and white checkered flag at lap 31.
The KBM Toyota team continued to be a constant front-running team with at least one or two cars. Whether it be the eventual Stage 2 winner John Hunter Nemechek, who led a total of 11 laps; Chandler Smith, who led 21 total laps; or race winner Corey Heim, who led 22 laps during the race.
Halie Deegan, the 2021 Most Popular Driver of the NASCAR Truck Series, had multiple problems with her No. 1 Ford F-150, causing an unfortunate DNF on lap 24.
