Ty Gibbs won four races in his 18 starts during the 2021 season, making him by far the leading candidate to run a full-time schedule for 2022. He also took home the Rookie of the Year honors, despite not running the complete schedule.
Gibbs, who just turned 19, won four of his 18 starts in his first stab at competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series last year. That included becoming just the sixth time in the series' history to win in his debut race, coming last February at the Daytona International Speedway Road course. At the same time, Gibbs competed for a championship in the ARCA Menard's Series and won it at season's end.
Through his first three races, Gibbs earned all top five finishes. His second triumph of the year came at Charlotte Motor Speedway in late May. At Watkins Glen International, he outlasted road course aces AJ Allmendinger and Austin Cindric. His final checkered flag of the year came at Kansas Speedway, passing the No. 22 car with 11 laps remaining.
Chris Gayle, who won 11 races as a crew chief in 2021 with the No. 54 team, will return to crew chief Gibbs. Sponsors Monster Energy, Sports Clips and Interstate Batteries will all have their primary schemes throughout the season.
