Spire Motorsports also indicated that Josh Bilicki will drive the No. 77 car for a majority of the season, but his attempt will not be full-time.
With this news it is likely that Spire Motorsports (who previously owned three charters, and sold two of them to Kaulig Racing) has purchased another charter, making room for the No. 77 to remain, and Josh Bilicki to come aboard. It would be difficult, yet not impossible for the team to run the No. 77 entry as an open car for the entire season. A team whom Spire Motorsports may have bought a charter from is Rick Ware Racing. The four car team, who has seen their fair of struggles, is looking to downsize to a two car team in 2022. This attempt to become more competitive puts two charters on the market, purchasing at least one of them could be a useful acquisition for Spire Motorsports.
Josh Bilicki has spent most of his time in the NASCAR Cup Series driving for Rick Ware Racing. In this time he has shown some wavering results, although his performance stands out in stark contrast to some of his teammates at Rick Ware Racing. As Bilicki has performed in the NASCAR Cup Series, he scored his best finish of 10th during the Summer of 2021, driving in the "Coke Zero Sugar" 400 at Daytona International Speedway. Although he crossed the line 11th, after Chris Buescher was disqualified for unapproved adjustments, Bilicki officially was scored as finishing in the top-10.
Bilicki's driving talent has become undoubtable over the past few seasons, and now Spire Motorsports whom Bilicki once drove for (two races in 2020) is now going to take advantage of that. While the phrasing of that sentence may sound grim, Bilicki is receiving a major upgrade in equipment as he joins the team, therefore the beneficial relationship goes both ways.
