December 8th, 1951 - Perry Smith, the owner of Frank Mundy's racecar, is killed in an air crash during a mercy mission; He had been carrying an 80-year-old woman to a hospital, but his plane crashed into a countryside near Greensburg, Indiana due to icy weather conditions.
December 8th, 1952 - The front cover of Time magazine is adorned by NASCAR stock car racing and the latest- champion, Tim Flock.
December 7th, 1969 - Cale Yarborough is severely injured when his racecar hits the wall at the new Texas Motor Speedway; Bobby Isaac wins the Texas 500, grabbing the first superspeedway victory of his career.
