With the addition of a NASCAR Cup Series operation, GMS Racing has announced that they will downsize their NASCAR Truck Series team in the coming season.

During the 2021 Season, GMS Racing had fielded a multi-truck team, consisting of 5 week-to-week entries.

GMS Racing team owner, Mary Gallagher, has recently purchased the majority interest of Richard Petty Motorsports from Andrew Murstein and Medallion Financial in a $19.1 Millon deal. The sale consisted of the two Petty charters, and the rights to the legendary No. 43. With the team merger, the Cup Series operation will become "Petty GMS Motorsports".

With a two-car team in Cup for the 2022 Season, GMS has decided to subtract from their Truck Series team. The organization will only have 2 full-time rides in that series next season, with Grant Enfinger and Jack Wood behind the wheel of the entries. Enfinger will pilot the No. 23 Chevrolet Silverado, while Jake Wood will drive the No. 24.
