Joe Gibbs Racing scales back to a 3 car Xfinity operation for 2022

With a lot of changes for the Joe Gibbs Racing Xfinity Series team in 2022, they have unveiled that they will downsize to 3 full-time entries next season.

The No. 18 car, has not had an announced driver as Daniel Hemric won't return to the team, but I will get to who most likely gets the ride in just a moment. The reigning Xfinity Series champion was not even going to return to the Joe Gibbs Racing camp before he came out victorious at Pheonix Racing, just a little over a week ago. JGR had announced that he would not return to the team, and then Kaulig Racing picked up Daniel Hemric to drive for them in 2022.

Rumors have it that Joe Gibbs grandson, Ty Gibbs, will get the seat full-time next season. There is no reason why that is not a probable option, as he ran multiple starts for the No. 54 team, and took the car to victory lane 4 times. He also won the ARCA Menard's Series championship this year. I really do not know why JGR is holding back from announcing him as a full-time Xfinity driver next year, whether it is sponsorship holding something back or something else, we will never know. We just have to wait for anything else on the plans of the No. 18 Toyota Supra.

Brandon Jones is going back to pilot the No. 19 Toyota Supra next season, making him, the only known piece to the puzzle. Menard's will come back as the primary sponsor for Jones.

The No. 20 and the No. 54 are the most likely numbers for the 3rd JGR entry, as both ran full-time in the 2021 season: the 20 car with Harrison Burton, and the 54 car hosted multiple part-time drivers. Harrison Burton will move up to Cup Series competition with Wood Brothers Racing next season, leaving the No. 20 JGR ride wide open.

If anything, the 3rd entry will be like the No. 54 car was in the 2021 season, with many different drivers sharing the driving duties.

Until more details for the JGR Xfinity drivers/sponsors are released, there will be some unanswered questions for at least another couple of weeks.
