It was announced moments ago (9/14/21) that the NASCAR Cup Series Clash will be moving to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to kick of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, and mark the beginning of the NASCAR Generation Seven era. While this piece of news had been rumored for several weeks, it was officially confirmed this evening on FOX's NASCAR Race Hub.
The famed sports stadium in downtown LA, was built in 1923 and has been home to the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics, two NFL Superbowls, the 1952 World Series and the USC Trojans since 1923. Now the famous complex will be reconfigured to host a NASCAR Cup Series race. Asphalt will be temporarily laid within the Coliseum to form a 1/4 mile short track, with similarities to the NASCAR's legendary Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

For the first time in NASCAR history, the "Clash" (also known as the Busch Clash, or the Bud Shootout) will take place outside of 'The World Center of Racing', Daytona International Speedway. NASCAR's Clash is an invitation only exhibition race, which is held prior to the season opening race, the "Daytona" 500. As of 2021 the eligibility requirements for the Clash are as follows: A diver must be either a race, stage, or Busch Pole Award winner in the previous season, a playoff driver in the previous season, or a past "Daytona" 500 or Clash Winner who raced full time in the previous season.
As this announcement finally became more than just rumors and information from 'inside sources', NASCAR was very careful to not mention anything in terms of sponsorship for the race. The Clash was originally, and most recently sponsored by Busch, being called the "Busch Clash". While Busch is a premier partner of the NASCAR Cup Series, it appears as though their involvement with The 2022 Clash is currently up in the air.
Construction on this project will begin around New Years of 2022, leaving only five weeks to complete work on the track before the scheduled race date, February 6th 2022. Tickets for the race will go live this Thursday, September 16th, 2021 at 1:00 PM EST, for more ticket information head over to www.nascar.com/lacoliseum.
