Jeff Gordon leaves FOX for larger roll at Hendrick Motorsports

Associated Press

It was announced this afternoon that 4-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion, and NASCAR on FOX analyst Jeff Gordon will not return to the FOX booth in 2022, and instead will assume a larger position as the Vice Chairmen of Hendrick Motorsports. This position leaves Gordon 2nd in charge, and will begin on January 1st, 2022.

Jeff Gordon, who retired from full-time NASCAR competition in 2015, was a very popular and successful race car driver for Hendrick Motorsports. After his retirement, Gordon became an analyst for NASCAR on FOX, and obtained a position as a higher up at Hendrick Motorsports. While Jeff Gordon’s character has been well loved throughout the years, it has not always fit in with the personalities of his other colleagues at FOX.

This move has been suggested/rumored for a while now, though those rumors have now amounted to truth. Jeff Gordon’s departure is certainly a loss to the entire NASCAR on FOX team, though hopefully with Gordon’s attention focused in a single direction, his expertise and know-how can be put to better use.
