Alex Bowman wins Cup race at Dover

Hendrick Motorsports

Alex Bowman has won the “Drydene” 400 at Dover International Speedway, scoring his 2nd NASCAR Cup Series victory of the 2021 season.

Much like the NASCAR Xfinity Series race before it, the “Drydene” 400 at Dover International Speedway did not disappoint! From the very start of this race, it was unclear who would come out victorious, with favorites like Martin Truex Jr., and Kyle Busch falling off the pace, and previous winners like Kevin Harvick reliving some of their past glory.

Once all of this shuffling settled down, one team was noticeably stronger than the rest, and that was Hendrick Motorsports. Starting on the 2nd row, Kyle Larson was the first Hendrick Motorsports driver to really shine taking the lead from Truex, and holding onto it for a good portion of the race. Chase Elliott and William Byron weren’t too far behind, and eventually with the addition of Alex Bowman, Hendrick Motorsports had a hold on the entire field.

This race might have displayed one of reigning champion, Chase Elliott’s, strongest efforts this season. After starting at the rear of the field for inspection issues, within the first stage he found himself back inside the Top 10, and was able to maintain that position for virtually the entire race.

Some other notable names today are that of Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon and Tyler Reddick. While Reddick suffered a rocky start to the day in the beginning stage 1, he came back strong with his teammate Austin Dillon to battle hard, and maintain a Top 15 position for the majority of the race.

Bubba Wallace himself had a ground breaking finish during this race, finishing 11th. While this number may not sound like success for some teams, this finis marks the first time that 23XI racing has broken the Top-15. This is a major accomplishment in and of it’s self, especially considering the No. 23 was only one of two Toyotas in the Top-15 for most of the day.

Likely the biggest, and most controversial incident occurred on lap 313, when Ricky Stenhouse Jr. drove his No. 47 Camaro right into the rear end of Anthony Alfredo’s No. 38 Ford Mustang. This sent Alfredo spinning, nearly causing several other wrecks, until the No. 38 made it safely to the apron, setting him back immensely.

For the most part the Monster Mile put on some great racing, there were a few wrecks, and many close calls, but in the end the Hendrick Motorsports Camaros were dominant.
