Dale Earnhardt, Jr. confirmed on Sunday, April 11th, that an the possibility of JR Motorsports fielding a car in the NASCAR Cup Series, is not exactly out the question.
JR Motorsports, formed in 2002, and is owned by NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr., his sister Kelly Earnhardt, and successful team owner Rick Hendrick. Since 2002 the team has earned 46 NASCAR Xfinity Series victories, as well as 3 Xfinity Series championships.
Currently, JRM fields the No. 1, No. 7, No. 8, and the No. 9 in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
With the Next Gen car coming out next year, Dale Jr. and his sister Kelly Earnhardt have discussed what the obstacles would be associated with an expansion; acquiring a charter and sponsorship being the most challenging
With the savings promised in the Next Gen car, now might just be the perfect time for new teams to get their toes wet in the Cup Series, and maybe JR Motorsports will take advantage of that...
