Josh Berry wins “Cook Out” 250 at Martinsville Speedway

NASCAR Xfinity

Josh Berry has won the “Cook Out” 250 at Martinsville Speedway, effectively scoring his first victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Josh Berry, who drives the No. 8 Camaro for JR Motorsports, is a Tennessee native, and has lots of short  track experience with the team. That experience was noticeably present during today’s portion of the “Cook Out” 250. This race was originally scheduled to be conducted this past Friday night, but after roughly one stage, rain brought out the red flag, and eventually led to the race being rescheduled to today, Sunday, April 11th. Berry, among others such as Brandon Jones, Ty Gibbs, Harrison Burton, and Daniel Hemric led laps during this race. This was undoubtedly a good race for the Joe Gibbs Racing cars. One driver we saw surprisingly lead a few laps was Bayley Currey. Currey was able to assume the lead position due to pit strategy before a restart.

This race saw lots of the beating and banging that is often associated with short tracks, such as Martinsville. Colby Howard, Brian Gdovic, and Alex Labbé all fell victim to this type contact, as each driver was spun, and brought out one of the many cautions that occurred during this race.

A driver who had a great run today was Noah Gragson. While not able to pass his teammate Josh Berry for the lead in the final laps, out of all the “Dash For Cash” contenders, Gragson scored the best finish, 2nd. Scoring this finish means that Noah Gragson has earned $100,000 for his team. Ty Gibbs also did well today finishing 4th, in only his 3rd Xfinity Series race.

Noah Gragson (No. 9) won stage 1 (during Friday’s portion of the race), Daniel Hemric (No. 18) won stage 2, and Josh Berry (No. 8) of course won stage 3 of this race.
