Carl Edwards interested in returning for a one-off

Friday evening, former NASCAR driver, Carl Edwards made an appearance on FOX Sports’ NASCAR Race Hub to reflect on his career, and how he has been enjoying his retirement.

During this discussion, Edwards explained that since retirement he has been traveling the world quite a bit with his family, and has even sailed across the Atlantic Ocean twice. When asked about possibly becoming inducted into NASCAR Hall of Fame, Edwards replied “It’s a pretty big deal, so yeah, I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s an honor”.

While the entirety of the conversation was very meaningful, there was one major take away.

When asked about NASCAR’s latest endeavor, the Bristol Dirt races, Edwards told reporter Kaitlyn Vincie “It (Bristol dirt) looked just like a blast”, and went on to say that he was even wondering if there was an opportunity for him to drive in the race. Edwards continued, telling Bobby Labonte that he would be interested in returning to NASCAR for a one-off race, and that he’s really missed the people, and “the driving part” a lot. Edwards further explained that if he was to return it would likely be at a road course (with NASCAR’s current package), or possibly at another type of track, but only if NASCAR changed their package to “No downforce, and about a thousand horsepower”.

In the past, Carl Edwards has not been very open on this topic, and has rightfully so, requested privacy in his retirement. After suddenly announcing his retirement from the sport in 2017, Edwards’ return has been, and continues to be rumored. Tonight’s discussion on NASCAR Race Hub further details these rumors, and could be a pivotal moment in terms of Carl Edwards’ return to auto racing.
