Keselowski and Suárez without crew chiefs for Atlanta

Würth Racing

In post race inspection after yesterday evening’s “Instacart” 500 at Phoenix Raceway, it was discovered that both the No. 2 and the No. 99 had two unsecured lug nuts. The penalty for two unsecured lug nuts is a one race suspension of each team’s crew chief and a $20,000 fine.

This penalty means that in the upcoming March 21st race at Atlanta Motor Speedway the No. 2 team will not have crew chief Jeremy Bullins, and the No. 99 team will not have crew chief Travis Mack.

It was also announced that the No. 1 of Kurt Busch, the No. 24 of William Byron, and the No. 18  of Kyle Busch were all discovered to be missing one lug nut. The penalty for this is far less harsh, though a $10,000 fine will be imposed on each team’s crew chief.

This story line will play a large role in this upcoming Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Viewers will want to pay special attention to Brad Keselowski, his performance, and how it may be impacted by this loss, especially since the No. 2 is a car that most expect to make the playoffs. A bad day at Atlanta could set Keselowski back, and make more work for him in the future.
